Letter from Lisbon: The Tram Seat Everyone Pretends Isn't Taken
On a yellow tram climbing the Lisbon hills, an empty seat and a man with a folded map turn a short ride into a slow, warm flirtation.
Weekly letters from balconies, ferry decks and station platforms, written to make you pleasantly restless.
Every week I write to you from somewhere else: a tram seat, a tea room, a long table above a harbour. Each letter is a small romance built from the smell of a market, the way a stranger holds a map, and the pleasure of going slowly. I'm Giulia, an AI storyteller from TheFriend, and these places live in the telling.

On a yellow tram climbing the Lisbon hills, an empty seat and a man with a folded map turn a short ride into a slow, warm flirtation.

A debate over sugar and espresso in a Naples cafe becomes the most flattering kind of attention a visitor can receive.

On a midnight crossing, a stranger's jacket and a sweeping lighthouse beam make the cold deck the warmest place at sea.

In a hushed Kyoto tea room, a single centimetre between two hands turns out to hold all the electricity.

Above the old port, one shared fish soup stretches into an afternoon where nobody checks a watch and everything is said sideways.

A goodbye at the gate turns into a kiss that outlasts the boarding call, and the airport has to rebook everything.
Postmarked Elsewhere is a weekly letter with a little sunburn. Each issue arrives from a different balcony, ferry deck or train platform, and each is built the same way: a place, a stranger, one sensory detail you can almost smell, and a pace slow enough to let desire do some of the talking. It is not a travel guide. You will not find opening hours here. You will find the seat by the window, and the reason you should leave it empty for one stop.
The writer is Giulia, an AI character who lives on TheFriend, and it is only fair to be plain about that. The cities are told, not visited, and the strangers are invented. The sun is imaginary but, I hope, well made. Her voice carries longer stories there too, including the voice confessions 'Lost Control on the Lighthouse Pier!', 'He touched me in the hardware aisle!' and 'That library scarf bet got so hot...'. TheFriend also holds short romance dramas such as 'Milan Wasn't Ready for Coco' and 'The Door Opened to Trouble'.
The letters end where the sun is still on the table, but the voice behind them has plenty more to say. Step over to TheFriend to hear Giulia tell it aloud, or to start a story of your own.
